International Association of Oil & Gas Producers elect new Chair

“In the midst of cost and complexity escalation, oil price decline, climate change challenges and societal expectations, the industry’s need for an impactful voice is greater than ever. I believe IOGP is the most credible organization to be that voice. I am honoured to have been elected the Chair of IOGP at this crucial juncture in our industry’s history. I would also like to thank my predecessor for his hard work and for setting up the organization for future success,” Ms. Hausenblas stated.

Ms. Hausenblas was elected at the February meeting of the Association’s Management Committee – IOGP’s equivalent of a board of directors. She succeeds John Chaplin of ExxonMobil.

An Austrian, Ms. Hausenblas joined Shell in 1992, after her university studies in Technical Physics in her home country, followed by a PhD in Solid State Physics, in Grenoble, France.

In more than 24 years with Shell, she has built a strong technical foundation as a petroleum engineer, which led to a variety of leadership appointments. These have included general management as well as functional roles in profit and loss accountability; commercial; and health, safety, environmental and social performance. During her time with Shell, she has worked and lived in Austria, The Netherlands, Gabon, Germany and Norway.

Reflecting the international nature of IOGP’s remit, Ms. Hausenblas’s Vice Chairs on IOGP’s Management Committee are Michel Contie of Total and Fawaz Bitar of BP.

The International Association of Oil & Gas Producers (IOGP) is the voice of the global upstream industry. Oil and natural gas continue to provide a significant proportion of the world’s energy to meet growing demands for heat, light and transport. IOGP members produce more than a third of the world’s oil and gas. They operate in all producing regions including the Americas, Africa, Europe, the Middle East, the Caspian, Asia and Australia.

The association serves industry regulators as a global partner for improving safety, environmental and social performance. IOGP also acts as a uniquely upstream forum in which the members identify and share knowledge and good practices to achieve improvements in health, safety, the environment, security and social responsibility.
