America’s gas boom changes the game at Gastech 2018
New success in domestic production drives 30% increase in American companies exhibiting in Barcelona
Riding the wave of shale gas drilling success that is transforming the U.S. energy landscape, America’s natural gas and LNG producers, EPC contractors, equipment and services providers are bringing new energy to the nation’s presence at Gastech 2018, September 17-20 at the Fira Gran Via in Barcelona, Spain.
“For the first time in six decades, we have become a net natural gas exporter,” said U.S. Energy Secretary Rick Perry. “This gives us the opportunity to share not only our energy, but the technology and the know-how that unleashed our bounty in the first place.”
In 1988, the United States produced just under 18 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, which accounted for less than 10 percent of the nation’s power mix, according to the U.S. Department of Energy. Last year, the U.S. produced nearly 29 trillion cubic feet, and it was the country’s single largest source of electricity, accounting for nearly one-third of all U.S. production.
Growth in production is driving more American companies to participate in Gastech 2018. Nearly 60 U.S. companies representing 19 states plus the District of Columbia are exhibiting in Barcelona this week, up 30% from the total of 42 that participated in last year’s edition in Tokyo.
From publicly traded stalwarts such as Fluor, McDermott and ExxonMobil to small-and-medium-sized enterprises with fewer than 500 employees, American exhibitors represent technologies and innovations that are in demand for a wide scope of field, facility and end-use applications.
Eight of those companies (14%) are exhibiting at Gastech for the first time in the show’s inaugural USA Partnership Pavilion organized by Kallman Worldwide, Inc., Gastech’s official U.S. representative, in coordination with numerous government agencies, including the departments of Commerce and State. Four Pavilion exhibitors are also new to the market.
Located prominently in Hall 3, the Pavilion is America’s headquarters on-site: an efficient location for buyers to meet more U.S. suppliers, a professional business center for U.S. exhibitors looking to maximize their exposure and time at the event, and a forum for all to share ideas and insights.
“Now more than ever, success in international trade is driven by partnership and teamwork,” said Kallman Worldwide President and CEO Tom Kallman. “America’s growing presence at Gastech, amplified by the USA Partnership Pavilion, reflects our country’s increasing market influence and commitment to building sustainable, mutually beneficial business relationships in energy sectors around the world.”
Though the focus this week is on Barcelona, the United States can’t help but look forward at the same time to Gastech 2019, which will be held September 17-19 in Houston, TX. In a special presentation yesterday to VIP Programme attendees in Barcelona, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner addressed America’s “Journey from Importer to Exporter,” and essentially jump-started a year-long campaign to make Gastech 2019 a referendum on America’s gas industry prominence and Houston’s stature as the ‘Energy Capital of the World.’
“As a new net exporter, America has new influence in global gas markets, and U.S. product and service suppliers are attracting more interest from buyers across the pipeline,” said Mayor Turner. “Strategic thinking, innovative technology and our highly skilled workforce contribute to America’s growing success in the field and on the floor at Gastech — this year in Barcelona and next year in Houston.”
In addition to space on site, USA Partnership Pavilion exhibitors are featured in Kallman’s online Gastech 2018 Visitor Zone at kallman.com/gastech-2018. The Visitor Zone features interactive tools, including exhibitor news summaries and images, to connect interested industry professionals and media around the world to the Pavilion, even if they can’t attend Gastech 2018 in person.
