ROMCIM has finished the works for a new wind farm, placed on a brownfield site in Romania – Medgidia Cement Plant. Bilfinger E&M Central Eastern Europe, represented by its branch in Romania, has provided Owners Engineering services, to support ROMCIM & CRH project management team for the construction of a new windfarm with 5 wind turbine generators (WTGs) exclusively powering Medgidia cement plant. This wind farm is currently in testing phase.

Bilfinger’s project scope of work included: Project Manager, Commercial Manager, Design Manager, Construction Manager Civil and Electrical, Health and Safety Manager, and also certified persons as per local requirements (H&S coordinator, Civil works supervision, Electrical works supervision). This project concerns the Medgidia plant, located around 30 km from the Black Sea coast. The wind farm has a total installed capacity of approximately 30 MW and an estimated annual net production of 80 GWh. The electricity generated will be used entirely by the Medgidia plant, meeting a significant part of its annual energy needs and contributing to a lower carbon footprint for the products manufactured at the plant. It will generate clean and renewable energy, contributing with a reduction of over 40,000 tons² of CO2 annually to the national energy mix.

“We’re happy to collaborate finally with ROMCIM. We’ve made some good efforts, but in the end, we are happy to have ROMCIM, a CRH company, in our company’s portfolio. We have been chosen in this case because we had the necessary technical arguments but also due to our finished successful projects, which made our client believe in our expertise. We hope that this is only the beginning of a future collaboration and that we will be able to extend this cooperation not only in Romania, but also other countries where both of our companies are present,” stated Vasile Macarov, Bilfinger Project Director.

“More than thirty years ago, I started my professional career in the cement industry, working as a designer and project manager in the cement plants of the CRH Group in Poland and Ukraine, so it is a great pleasure for me personally to collaborate with ROMCIM and CRH teams again and to see how the industry is changing in a positive way over the years,” added Mariusz Jędrzejczyk, PMC Director of Bilfinger in CEE.

“We appreciated the collaboration with Bilfinger Engineering & Maintenance Eastern Europe team on this wind energy project, the first one for ROMCIM and CRH Group in Romania and a benchmark of this kind at national level. We positively evaluated the vast expertise in previous projects demonstrated by the Bilfinger team. Moreover, we deeply valued the flexibility and adaptability of our partner project team during the different phases of the project as well as the compliance with our specific requests regarding the company Health & Safety standards in line with our strict policy in this field,” noted Sandu Boiadovschi, ROMCIM Project Manager.
