Dosco PetroServices Romania Celebrates 25 Years of Business

This year marks Dosco PetroServices’ 25th anniversary of business. Dosco was founded in the Netherlands in 1992 by Mr. John Morees and Dosco PetroServices opened its doors with local partner Mr. Vitalian Danciu in Romania in 1997. To put that into perspective: Google did not exist, cell phones were the size of bricks, and a gallon of gas was only $1.08.

The journey of the company can be divided into three major periods, with each period having their own challenges and achievements. Internally, Dosco has divided them into the first 10 years, then another 7.5 years and the past 7.5 years.

As most of you know The Oil & Gas industry in the 90’s was very different from what it is today. Most Romanian Oil & Gas companies were still owned by the state and because of a rough/difficult economic climate, they were not able to settle their bills with money.

Instead, they came up with Compensation Contracts, which consisted of payments with Diesel, Wood, Construction materials, Steel plates, basically everything except for cash money.

To recover actual money to be able to pay their own bills, all these compensation payments needed to be sold first. At times, it felt like Dosco was a trading company instead of a service provider. Having no experience with some of the materials they were paid with, it meant that sometimes these goods were unfortunately sold with additional losses.

Although the early periods were tough, the years after the Romanian Oil & Gas Industry went through some positive changes. Dosco expanded their business, built strong partnerships, added more services, hired more personnel, moved offices (several times) and purchased its operations base in Floresti. Dosco Romania improved and grew into the reliable and high-quality Service Provider it is known for within Eastern Europe’s Oil & Gas industry today.

Unfortunately, disaster struck the company in 2013 and 2014. The founders, Vitalian (at the age of 80) passed away in 2013 and John (at the age of 58) in 2014. It goes without saying that the years after, in combination with the Oil & Gas crisis were very challenging times for everybody at Dosco.

They were now being forced to change leadership. Which, while mourning is a very difficult task. Fortunately, their founders proved to have built a professional, trustworthy, flexible, and strong team. The organizational structure changed, a new generation of leadership came in and they turned more into a co-operational family-owned business.

Dosco is beyond proud to say that they have managed to survive and are still going strong. It’s not by mere luck that they’ve made it this far. It takes something special for a business to keep its doors open for a quarter century, especially in a rapidly evolving and competitive industry like ours.

Twenty-five years of building strategic partnerships, adapting to an ever-changing market and improving processes have transformed Dosco from a start-up in 1997 to the high-quality service provider it is today.

“We are infinitely proud and grateful to John and Vitalian for creating Dosco Romania and we will do our outmost best to continue and grow their legacy,” Dosco representatives stated.
