In Memoriam University Professor Emeritus PhD Eng. Niculae Napoleon Antonescu
One Man, One Vision, One Lasting Legacy
It is with deep sorrow and eternal gratitude that we announce the passing of University Professor Emeritus PhD Eng. Niculae Napoleon Antonescu – a visionary spirit, a voice of balance and excellence in the academic and professional environment, a man whose imprint remains alive in all that we are today.
More than 25 years ago, on his initiative and under his guidance, the Oil and Gas Journal (Jurnalul de Petrol si Gaze) was born – a publication that later became the Petroleum Industry Review and today is known as the Energy Industry Review. More than a technical magazine, this platform has been, from the very beginning, the expression of a clear vision: to create a professional and informed space of dialog for the entire energy industry, to support innovation and honest communication in a strategic field for Romania and the world.
Prof. Antonescu was not only the initiator of this editorial endeavour, but he also was our partner in setting up and running Industry Media Vector, the publisher of Energy Industry Review.
A discerning leader, a vocational teacher, a man of deep scientific culture and a genuine moral conscience, he trained generations of engineers and made a decisive contribution to the development of Romanian technical education as rector of the Petroleum-Gas University of Ploiesti (1996-2004), as well as dean of the Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering.
But perhaps the most important lesson he taught us was through his character: a bright, generous, deeply human presence. A mentor who did not impose by authority, but inspired by intellectual refinement, kindness and deep respect for people and the profession.
The pages of the magazine still reflect his spirit today: rigor, clarity, balance and commitment to truth. The legacy he has left us honours and obliges us.
Rest in peace, Dear Professor Niculae Napoleon Antonescu. We will carry on, with dignity and gratitude, the torch you have lit.
We will remember you with respect, admiration and affection.
