SLB Supports Education and Research at the Petroleum-Gas University
SLB’s commitment to investing locally has taken a significant step forward with a new initiative with the Faculty of Oil and Gas Engineering at the Petroleum-Gas University of Ploiesti.
The global energy technology company has a long-standing relationship with the university, which includes sponsoring software licenses and actively recruiting graduates due to their high-level training in petroleum and gas engineering.
The partnership is based on shared values, resources, and expertise, and has led to various collaborations within this common energy-focused environment.
A new laboratory dedicated to learning, training and research
The latest collaboration between SLB and the Petroleum-Gas University of Ploiesti aims to continuously enhance the education system, align engineering training with market needs, and promote scientific research. As part of this effort, SLB is supporting the creation of a new laboratory dedicated to learning, training, and research at the Faculty of Oil and Gas Engineering.
This facility will support both student education and the research activities of faculty members and doctoral candidates.
Beneficiaries of the new investment
The investment will directly benefit undergraduate, master’s students, and doctoral students at the Faculty of Oil and Gas Engineering.
Scientific research is a vital resource—not only for the university but for the broader industry. Developing research skills and fostering a scientific mindset among students and faculty provides a competitive edge. The industry, in turn, gains access to highly qualified professionals who are better prepared to meet evolving technological demands.
Graduates will be equipped to combine theoretical knowledge with practical skills and adaptability, enhancing their readiness for the workforce.
Key activities planned
As part of SLB’s ongoing support to advancing science and technology in Petroleum-Gas University in Ploiesti, the following key activities are planned:
- Classroom renovation: including the modernization of the data network and connectivity infrastructure
- Furniture and equipment: to support a modern learning environment
- Software acquisition: SLB will provide licenses for industry standard tools such as Petrel, Eclipse, Intersect, Petromod, Techlog, OFM, Pipesim, Multiflash, and OLGA.
Geographical area of impact
The impact of the investment will be most strongly felt in Romania, where students and faculty will benefit directly from upgraded facilities, improved learning environments and access to modern tools. However, the improvements also have international relevance given the presence of foreign students enrolled at the faculty and the university’s active participation in global promotional and academic events.
Project outcomes
The project will have the following impact:
- An increase in the number of university and non-university tertiary education graduates who will secure jobs thanks to access to modern learning tools.
- High-level training for future engineers in drilling, extraction, transportation and storage of fluids.
- Over 200 undergraduate and master’s students will use the equipment over the course of a year.
Graduates will benefit from opportunities both locally and internationally. These specializations offer stable jobs, including contributing to the development of the economy through technological innovation and sustainable solutions.
Last but not least, SLB will benefit from increased visibility among graduates and future professionals in oil companies where they will work.
Access to modern laboratories, internship programs in collaboration with top companies, opportunities for personal development through participation in international competitions and projects, support in research ensure a complete training, geared to the real needs of employers.
