ADAA: Satisfied Employees at Work Increasing Company’s Productivity by Over 20%
The feeling of pleasure or satisfaction at work of employees contributes to increasing the company’s productivity by over 20%, according to a study conducted by the Association for the Development of Local Entrepreneurship – ADAA.
“To understand what satisfaction at work means, we resort to the broadest explanation: a pleasant or positive emotional state resulting from the appreciation of the own job,” said ADAA President Andreea Negru.
She believes that “a good knowledge of each employee is the key factor to maintaining satisfaction and to success in developing an effective staff strategy”.
ADAA study shows that the main stimuli to create a positive emotional state are: leadership style, rewards, development opportunities, obligations of each employee, success in career and, last but not least, perception of company’s soundness. Employers can contribute to employee happiness at the workplace by creating a systematized workflow, by involving employees in company’s activity, not only through the work executed, but also through the direct contribution to creating the development strategy, which gives each employee the feeling of belonging to the organization, as well as by developing harmonious working relationships. This comes in addition to team’s strength or the force in acting to achieve the goals, both personally and at organization level.
“The employees’ feeling of satisfaction at the workplace lasts on average three months, which is why management needs to continuously reinvent itself to cope with the challenge of retaining human resources. At international level, 87% of employees don not feel engaged at the workplace, and this reflects in high costs for companies and therefore for the entire society, in addition to the costs that take the form of individual dissatisfaction. The more loyal the employees are, the chances that they do not leave the organization exceed 55%, and the more dedicated they are to achieving the assumed objectives, the higher the organization’s productivity, with 20% better results,” concluded ADAA President Andreea Negru.
Research shows that the first step that should be taken for employees to show passion and dedication at the workplace is the real interest shown by employers in their needs. This interest in employees should spread top-down, from mission, vision, and organization values, through leaders, to all workers. Passionate and engaged employees are happy employees, and a company whose employees are happy and working hard will be an organization that will perform in the long run.
