Chimcomplex to Put Romania on the Green Map of the World

Chimcomplex Borzesti has recently announced the largest investment plan in Romania ’s petrochemical industry in the last 30 years. The 2022-2030 Strategic Plan of the company provides for a total of EUR 2.5 billion invested. Moreover, the company wants to put Romania on the green map of the world.

Implementation of green energy is absolutely necessary to put Romania on the green map of the world and will help this country fulfil its Green Deal obligations and reduce its carbon footprint.

“Why do we say this? Because we can make it real, this is what we have been doing for 50 years. Hydrogen has been produced on our platforms for 50 years, approximately 6,000 tons/year. We have projects of new cogeneration units to obtain energy efficiency in the long run, modernize electrolysis on both industrial platforms for an increased hydrogen production,” mentioned company officials.

The largest player on the domestic market for chemical products, Chimcomplex Borzesti, launched the first issue of international bonds and plans a capital increase by EUR 225 million, after being listed on the main market of the Bucharest Stock Exchange.

Strategic chemical plants in Romania

Oltchim and Chimcomplex are two flagship and strategic chemical plants for the domestic industry, being the only industrial platforms with full Romanian capital remaining operational after the transition of the last 30 years.

“The fact that we were able to save them from insolvency, that almost 2,000 employees can do their jobs in their cities, that we can be one of the largest growth engines for Romania’s economy motivate us to try everything to revive the chemical industry of our country,” the Chimcomplex officials also said.

Chemistry is part of the solution to the current crisis generated by combating climate change caused by greenhouse gas emissions. This is in fact the crisis we are going through.

“Our prospects are very good. The economy of the future is based on hydrogen. We are today a large hydrogen producer, and we will double the current volumes in two-three years. Our products have a direct impact in the reduction of CO2 emissions at the level of Romania and European Union, taking into account that 70% of our production is exported,” the representatives of Chimcomplex Borzesti also mentioned.

“Buildings in Europe are responsible for more than 1/3 of greenhouse gas emissions, and our polyols are part of the most efficient solutions to insulate buildings in order to reduce emissions and increase energy efficiency. Electricity must be obtained increasingly more from renewable sources and national and European plans set clear targets for green energy. Polyols exported by us are found in the most efficient wind turbine blades (polyurethane foam products) and are part of solar panel projects that create the so-called prosumer, the energy consumer who is also producer. We have already developed a technology to recycle PET bottles and here we will have a direct involvement in reducing the impact of plastic waste on the environment. We develop green products and we included in the strategy an important pillar based on green chemistry. In conclusion, we believe we are a company with a huge potential of development,” the officials of Chimcomplex also said.

In conclusion, Chimcomplex has realistic prospects to put Romania on the green map of the world due to the projects it envisages.

“Chimcomplex has an exponential growth potential because we have four aces up our sleeve: we value natural resources, we have know-how, and we have a market,” said Stefan Vuza, President of Chimcomplex Borzesti.
