Romania-France Collaboration on Low-carbon H2 Use

MEDEF International and the Romanian Embassy in France organized an event in Paris on ‘Low-Carbon Hydrogen and Opportunities for Bilateral Collaboration’.

During the meeting, the Memorandum of Understanding between the Romanian Hydrogen Energy Association, the French Hydrogen Association, and the Hydrogen Task Force of the MEDEF Employers’ Organization was signed.

Dan-Dragos Dragan, Secretary of State in the Romanian Ministry of Energy, attended the event, where he stressed that hydrogen is an important element in the energy mix to achieve climate neutrality by 2050. “In terms of Romania’s hydrogen targets, we have the NECP (National Energy and Climate Plan), which presents hydrogen as an energy carrier that could support Romania’s long-term energy security plan.”

Romania is running two hydrogen pilot projects to better understand the behavior of natural gas, one of which is being developed by Transgaz, the Romanian natural gas transmission operator, and the second by E.ON, the natural gas distribution operator in Romania.

The official said that due to Romania’s specificity, the aim is to use both hydrogen from renewable sources and low-carbon hydrogen.

The conference, which served as an excellent starting point for cooperation in the field of hydrogen between Romanian and French companies, was also attended by the Secretary of State in the Ministry of Research and Development, Tudor Prisecaru, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Entrepreneurship and Tourism, the National Research and Development Institute for Cryogenic and Isotope Technologies ICSI – Rm. Valcea, of companies Hidroelectrica, CNCIR, CHIMCOMPLEX and others.
