Romanian Government Has Set Up the Interministerial Energy Committee

Romania’s Prime Minister Nicolae-Ionel Ciuca has decided to set up the Interministerial Energy Committee, a structure whose goal is to identify solutions to protect citizens and economic sector from the effects of the energy crisis.

The first meeting of the Interministerial Energy Committee took place on the last day of January, at the Victoria Palace, under the coordination of PM Nicolae-Ionel Ciuca, who mentioned that this government structure has the goal to identify solutions to limit the effects of rising energy prices in the short, medium, and long term, as well as to monitor the measures implemented so far by the Government and their effects.

In order to support the large energy consumers, in December last year, EUR 130 million were allocated for their support. The Ministry of Energy is currently consulting with representatives of the European Commission, in order to continue this form of support, given that through this method of financial aid were supported 15 branches of Romanian industry that directly and horizontally employed over 100,000 people.

Participants in discussions undertook to submit to the Government, as soon as possible, their views and their own solutions to manage, in a sustainable formula, the set of measures necessary to protect the population and the economy.

On behalf of the Government, the meeting was also attended by Finance Minister Adrian Caciu, Secretary General of the Government Marian Neacsu, representatives of the Ministries of Energy, Economy, Chancellery of the Prime Minister, the National Agency for Mineral Resources. The discussions were also attended by representatives of the Competition Council, National Regulatory Authority for Energy, National Electricity and Natural Gas Market Operator OPCOM, Romanian Commodity Exchange (BRM), as well as representatives of energy producers, transmission operators and suppliers, of employers and trade union confederations, of associative structures and energy consumers.
