Romanian Municipalities and Universities to Receive Funding for PV Panels

Romanian Energy Minister Sebastian Burduja has signed 22 grant agreements within the Modernization Fund call: Key Program 1: Renewable energy sources and energy storage. The signing ceremony brought together mayors and representatives of beneficiary entities.

The contracted projects aim to support investments in new renewable electricity generation capacity for self-consumption. The total value of signed agreements amounts to RON 71,504,371 (EUR 14,371,582), of which RON 66,558,182 (EUR 13,377,453) is the grant from the Modernization Fund. The total installed capacity through these projects will be 10.29 MW.

“The signing of these agreements is another important step towards the energy transition and the achievement of Romania’s objectives. Investing in renewable energy sources will help reduce pollution and ensure lower bills for local governments and universities in the near future. These projects are essential to ensure that every community in Romania can benefit from clean and affordable energy. So far, under this Modernization Fund call alone, we have been able to help over 140 local communities to invest in electricity generation capacity for self-consumption, with a total value of over RON 390 million, of which RON 330 million in grant funds. The total installed capacity financed so far is over 50 MW,” said Energy Minister Sebastian Burduja.

“In addition, all these European grants will create new jobs in local communities. The Ministry of Energy will continue to develop and support programs that support secure, fairly priced and as green as possible energy for all citizens,” the official added.

By signing the grant agreements, the beneficiary public entities will be able to produce electricity for their own consumption, thus reducing their utility costs and the money saved can be used for other investments in local communities.
