Groundbreaking H2 Project in France
Cutting-Edge Compressors for Largest PEM Electrolyser
Burckhardt Compression, a global leader in compressor technology, announced the provision of three advanced oil-free hydrogen compressors for a groundbreaking H2 project. Situated in France, near a major industrial hub, the project is poised to set new standards in the hydrogen industry, aiming to become the largest PEM (Proton Exchange Membrane) electrolyser ever constructed.
The project, a 200MW electrolyser plant, is scheduled to commence production in 2026. With a projected annual output of 28,000 tons of green hydrogen, it represents a significant step toward a more sustainable future and is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 250,000 tons annually.
Half of the green hydrogen generated will be employed to partially decarbonize a refinery, making a substantial contribution to emissions reduction in the industrial sector. The remaining hydrogen is anticipated to be utilized for a variety of industrial and mobility applications, further promoting the adoption of hydrogen as a clean energy carrier.
Andreas Brautsch, President of the SYSTEMS Division of Burckhardt Compression, expressed his enthusiasm for this significant collaboration, stating, “We are excited to be part of the project and to provide our cutting-edge hydrogen compressors to support these ambitious hydrogen initiatives. This project perfectly aligns with our commitment to advancing sustainability and reducing carbon emissions through innovative compressor technology.”
The project showcases the potential of international cooperation in working towards a sustainable future.
