Modern Automated Vapor Recovery System Implemented at Vega Refinery
Rompetrol Rafinare, a member company of the KMG International Group, has launched a new fully automated vapor recovery unit at the auto and rail loading points in the Vega refinery. The 2.3 million USD investment effort is intended to reduce the impact of the operational activities on the environment and communities in the area.
The investment thus completes the general plan of actions carried out by Rompetrol Rafinare for the optimization, efficiency and compliance of the operational processes. The installation was put into operation, complying with all the norms in the field.
“We are investing in the implementation of the most modern and safe technologies, aimed at continuously reducing the impact that the Vega refinery has on the environment. The ongoing projects, together with the investments destined to streamline the production processes, will be able to ensure a positive course for Vega refinery, in the trend of the last years, in which remarkable results have been obtained,” said Yedil Utekov, General Manager of Rompetrol Rafinare.
The vapor recovery unit complies with all the environmental requirements in the field of emissions of volatile organic compounds, resulting from the operations of loading and unloading of petroleum products in the automotive and rail ramps of the Vega refinery. The works were carried out under the coordination of Rominserv (the general contractor of the KMG International Group), the central equipment of the installation was provided by a major French company and now operates automatically.
The fully automated equipment consists of four loading stations in the CF ramp and three stations in the car ramp, these being equipped with modern steam loading and recovery arms, electrical equipment and control, command and surveillance apparatus. The plant is designed for a capacity of 300 mc/h, and the maximum emissions in the atmosphere of the compounds do not exceed the values imposed by the profile authorities.
In 2018, Vega Ploiesti refinery, obtained eight operational records, including processed raw material (406,000 tons), hexane production (over 84,500 tons) or solvent production (43,500 tons).
Vega works in perfect synergy with the Petromidia Navodari refinery, the largest in Romania and one of the most modern in the Black Sea region. Thus, Petromidia fully supplies to the refinery in Ploiesti the raw/semi-manufactured materials necessary to obtain special products with a high added value. The two refineries are operated by Rompetrol Rafinare, one of the most important contributors to Romania’s state budget.
The main shareholders of Rompetrol Rafinare SA are KMG International (54.63% – directly and indirectly) and the Romanian State through the Ministry of Energy (44.69%).
