OWS Romania Receives API 7-1 Monogram for its New Repair Facility
Odfjell Well Services (OWS) has been awarded the API Spec 7-1 Monogram License for its new repair shop in Ploiesti, Romania; a demonstration of its commitment to ensuring drill string elements are serviced and repaired to the highest possible standards.
OWS established its first operational base in Romania in 2012, which has quickly become a hub for its geographical expansion in the region. The new repair facility was opened in October last year to create a reliable, in-house value chain for OWS’ downhole tool and tubular rental division, and to bridge the gap in high-quality machining services within the local market.
Achieving API certification is no small task, with OWS investing in new technologies, specialist training, and extensive internal audits to ensure compliance across all processes.
The facility has been equipped with Hankook Protec 9N Series CNC Horizontal Lathes and an automatic tubular handling machine, eliminating the need for manual operations. These technologies enable high-quality and efficient connection refacing, repairs, and new connection machining; cold working to increase equipment fatigue life, and phosphate coating of the pin and box to improve corrosion resistance.
“Romania is an important regional hub for our business and the location from which we coordinate our activity across Central and South-Eastern Europe. The new repair shop enhances our capabilities and, with the strong team we have put together, augments our ability to support local clients and projects, as well as those in neighboring countries,” Alexandru Gomoescu, OWS’ Regional Manager, said.
“We are extremely proud to have achieved API certification at the site. Our highest priority is to support our customers to drill wells in a safe and timely manner by eliminating the risks and non-productive time associated with drill strings and tubular connections. This accomplishment provides them with further assurance that our equipment and know-how comply with the highest global standards,” he also mentioned.
