NIA-Romatom MoU to Expand Nuclear Partnership
The Nuclear Industry Association (NIA) and Romatom have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to expand the partnership between the nuclear industries of the United Kingdom and Romania.
Tom Greatrex, Chief Executive of the NIA, and Corina Truica, Romatom’s President of the Board of Directors, signed the MoU at the World Nuclear Exhibition in Paris on Tuesday (4 November). The agreement identifies key areas where collaboration between the Romanian and UK nuclear sectors can help accelerate nuclear deployment.
The MoU will strengthen the associations’ mutual connections and communications, and encourage cooperation among industry players, utilities, educational institutions, and other relevant organisations with shared interests in advancing the economic uses of nuclear energy and radioisotopes.
It also promotes the inclusion of nuclear technologies within bilateral UK–Romania dialogues and in multilateral forums, supporting both countries’ shared leadership in nuclear innovation.
Areas of cooperation
Areas of cooperation include:
- New large-scale nuclear projects
- Small Modular Reactor (SMR) development
- Fusion research
- Decommissioning, dismantling and waste management
- Medical radioisotopes
The cooperation will target opportunities in the UK, Romania, and international markets.
