No. 1 Among Electricity Suppliers in Romania: Hidroelectrica Exceeds 1mn Customers

On November 4, 2025, Hidroelectrica exceeded the threshold of 1 million household and non-household customers on the supply market to the end-consumers. This moment marks a symbolic milestone in the company’s evolution, which entered the direct supply segment in 2020, quickly becoming one of the most important players in the field.

“Surpassing the threshold of one million customers is a confirmation of the trust Romanians have in Hidroelectrica and in the values we promote: fairness, stability, transparency and clean energy. We will continue to persevere in our investments in digitalization, modern services and renewable sources of production, in order to meet the increasingly high expectations of our customers,” said Bogdan Badea, Chairman of the Management Board of Hidroelectrica. “I would like to emphasize that Hidroelectrica has developed the most modern online contracting portal in Romania, designed to serve both households and business customers, and the platform is characterized by an intuitive, user-friendly and secure interface, which simplifies the process of concluding contracts and significantly reduces the time needed for administrative formalities,” added Bogdan Badea.

According to ANRE data from July this year, Hidroelectrica’s market share in the competitive market segment was 17.60%, with the company moving into first place among suppliers in Romania since then. While Hidroelectrica’s market share stood at 15.16% in June, in just one month, the company managed to become the leader of the competitive market in Romania, while also consolidating its reputation as the supplier with the most competitive offers on the market, even after the liberalization of the energy market.

Since entering the electricity supply market, Hidroelectrica has carried out a series of strategic modernization projects aimed at improving the consumer experience and strengthening consumer confidence in the company. Through a customer-oriented approach and operational efficiency, the company has focused on the complete digitization of internal processes—from billing and payment to user relationship management.

A central element of these efforts is the implementation of the ‘IHidro’ platform, a modern and easy-to-use tool that provides customers with quick access to information about consumption, bills and payments. At the same time, the company has implemented high-performance information systems for data management and customer relations management (CRM), which allow a more prompt and personalized response to customer requests.

Through these investments in digitization and communication, Hidroelectrica confirms its commitment to providing services that meet European standards, based on transparency, accessibility and innovation. With a tradition of over six decades in hydropower generation, Hidroelectrica has managed to reinvent itself by continuously adapting to market demands and through a customer-oriented vision, sustainability and innovation. The company remains firmly committed to the goal of producing 100% green energy and supporting Romania in achieving its decarbonization targets.

We recall that Hidroelectrica is the largest producer of renewable energy in Romania, managing a portfolio of 188 hydropower plants with a total power of 6.4 GW, as well as the Crucea wind farm, with 108 MW installed.
