E.ON Energie Romania Concludes Its First PPA

E.ON Energie Romania has become a producer of green energy following the completion of the construction of a photovoltaic power plant for the Webasto factory in Arad, under a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA).

Through this EUR 1 million project, developed, implemented, financed and operated by E.ON Energie Romania, the entire amount of renewable energy produced, about 1,530.51 MWh per year, will be sold on a long-term basis for 15 years to Webasto, at a fixed price with annual indexation.

Webasto, a leading global supplier of systems for the automotive industry, constantly focuses its efforts on sustainability and actively contributes to the energy transition in manufacturing.

“We want to develop more and more in the area of Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), and the partnership with Webasto is a first step in this direction. With this partnership and those to come, we are soon to continue our commitment to support our partners in their efforts to become more sustainable by using more green energy and to add value to their business by reducing their exposure to price volatility in the electricity market,” says Claudia Griech, General Manager of E.ON Energie Romania.

“The PPA concept is perfectly aligned with Webasto Romania’s sustainability objectives. The commitment to a fixed price for green energy over a long period of time gives us a solid basis for planning and helps us to align with the company’s values,” adds Koehler Philipp, Director of Webasto Romania.

The project consisted of the construction of a photovoltaic system made up of 3,360 modules of 460 W in the perimeter of the unit owned by Webasto in Zimandu Nou commune, Arad County, the power of the plant being 1,545.60 kWp. The photovoltaic power plant brings several benefits to Webasto Romania, which will cover 23% of its annual electricity needs, reducing CO2 emissions by about 467.74 tons annually.

In the non-residential segment, E.ON Energie Romania’s portfolio of photovoltaic generation projects currently comprises more than 392 finalized projects, totalling EUR 74 million. The total photovoltaic energy production is over 104 GWh/year and CO2 emissions are reduced by about 23,000 tons each year.
