Telenor IoT to Connect New Future-proof Volvo Wallbox for EV Home Charging in Europe
Telenor IoT has officially signed an agreement with Volvo Cars for their EV Charging initiative in Europe.
The recently announced Volvo wallbox offers fast and intelligent home charging, packed with Volvo technology. Users can easily schedule charging, see the charging history, restrict wallbox access and more using the Volvo Cars app.
Making the wallbox future proof, it will over time be able to support bi-directional charging, allowing vehicle-to-grid (V2G) and vehicle-to-home (V2H) charging. This means the charged car battery can for example support home loads or provide power back to the power grid to help maintain grid reliability and stability.
All these functionalities depend on a stable internet connection, which is why the Volvo wallbox comes equipped with a Telenor IoT SIM card out of the box. Cellular connectivity secures maximum uptime if WiFi or connection via the Ethernet cable are temporarily unavailable.
“The decision on this collaboration was quite straightforward considering our long and solid relationship. When choosing the right connectivity provider for our needs, we look for reliability, high quality, and of course professional support. Telenor Connexion has scored high in all these domains,” says Alexander Petrofski, Head of Energy Solutions at Volvo Car Corporation.
“For us, it’s an honor to continue and extend our work with Volvo Cars, unlocking new areas in the connected vehicles ecosystem we have strong expertise in. We are committed to provide the highest quality service to Volvo Cars and look forward to new innovative solutions in the horizon,” says Paulo Vergos, Chief NSO Officer at Telenor Connexion.
The sales of the new Volvo wallbox start on March 3rd, and it will be available in 31 European markets.
